My personal choice: all my gear from day 1 of riding. I’ve had an accident and thankfully, I was wearing my gear. I’m glad your son had his gear on. That was a fun trip! Thank you!
As I learned back in 1959 when I started riding. "Dress for slide, not the ride". Love the quick history clips you provide on your stops. Like the diner that opened in 1941 and is still open and running.
Yeah, I know I'm late to the party - two years after this first aired. However, your camera angles of the spectacular River Road are truly timeless. I have three takaways: 1) Yes, ATGATT is always gonna be sweaty but, apart from the obvious safety aspects, my skin is not going to broil under the merciless Alabama sun where I do most of my riding! 2) I thought I had given up SPAM a long time ago - that Jalapeno version has reawakened my taste buds! 3) You included a brief 8-second view of a night sky full of stars, away from big city light pollution. To me, this is one of the best camping experiences. More please?
The first half of your video took me back home, my home town is Buffalo Iowa,,, spent some time running around Muscatine as a teenager!!! The tanker you were next to my dad retired from driving from that company,,,, 29 years!!! Awesome video!!
My two favorite sayings, "All the gear all the time!, and "there are two kinds of riders, those that have been down and those that are going down!" Love your trip down the Great River Road. So much history to see and learn about. Thanks for Sharing!
BEST VIDEO TO DATE BECAUSE: footage is superb, music track was awesome, and most importantly, you took a little time for a reality check to explain your wardrobe preferences. You took me on a journey today so thankyou and will continue to pray for safe travels.
ATGATT 👏🏾👏🏽👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾 I also know from experience, unfortunately. Thank you for including your experiences and preference on that. It just may make a difference in someone’s life.
Thanks for sharing the gear piece. I applaud you guys for gearing up. I survived a horrible moto accident this summer. A guy ran a red light at high speed and I could not avoid him. A witness said I flew 100 feet! My surgeoun said I would definately have died without a helmet. God Bless 🙏☝️❤️
The history, the old buildings and the education you both are getting and then spread it to us, Thank you. So happy to see that your son survived his crash. I totally agree with you about wearing all the protective gear that you can." Dress for the slide not the ride ". You said nothing about Richs' mishap in the last short video.
Riding with all your gear! I'm all for it. My brother is still alive because of a full face helmet. Thankfully my husband rides all geared up and when I'm riding with him, I'm geared up. We've been full gear in 100 degrees. Comfortable...NO but protected YES! Good on you!
Your camera work is unlike any others I’ve seen. How do you pull off the shot that does a 360 while seemingly unattached to your Harley? It’s amazing…..and confusing. :)
My wife and I ride with full gear all the time including a airbag vest. We rode through the Mojave Desert this last summer in 106 degree and still wore full gear. Yes it was hot. Lots of fluids. Full gear does keep the sun from frying your skin which is a great benefit.
All the gear all the time. I have 2 jacket's, leather for winter, fully vented with with leather pants for touring or dragging jeans on the Harley plus my motodry adv suit on my vstrom. getting hot and humid down under here in Brisbane, so need the ventilation. Love your channel, God bless. Chris.
In OZ, it’s no helmet, no ride. I had a break from riding a MC and got back on at 50yo. I invested in well ventilated gear (OZ is HOT), one can always layer to warm up in cold weather. There’s a saying “There are old motorcyclists and bold motorcyclists. There are not many old, bold motorcyclists!” ATTGATT. Love the history of these old towns 👍
Fort Madison is a fantastic and well-known "railfan" spot. The BNSF railroad runs from Chicago to Los Angeles on its "transcon" (cross country) route.. Fort Madison is where it crosses the Mississippi River on a famous swing bridge. The town probably sees more than 80 trains a day combined in both directions..
I wear proper gear when I ride also. Love riding through small towns, so much history out there. There are Indian mound like those down here in Texas: Cado Indian Mounts near Alto Texas. Sadly the visitors center was destroyed with loss of life by a tornado. Your videos have made me consider The Great River Road as my next long motorcycle trip. Looks to be a beautiful ride.
LOVE the Emergency! show reference! ATGATT! As someone said above: you don’t dress for the ride, you dress for the slide. The interviews of the people at each site are new and bring the viewer into the location even more. Great job!
During this video you guys are getting closer to my hometown. I am from Herrin Illinois. The Mississippi river is about 50 miles to the west of Herrin and the Ohio River is about 50 mile to the east of Herrin. Also about 60 miles due South is the town of Cairo where the Misssissippi and Ohio rivers merge into one river. Lots of lakes a wildlife refuge, forts, old settlements etc. Great videos and I always enjoy your music choices.
I love mesh gear. When riding down the road with a mesh jacket on a hot sunny day I am cooling than if I was just wearing just a t-shirt. The mesh permits enough air flow to keep just as cool. It also keeps the sun from beat down on me which keeps me cooling than if I was only wearing a t-shirt. It also prevents sun burn. Admittedly in stop and go traffic, under 15 MPH a t-shirt is cooler. But I think that most of us riders avoid those conditions as much as possible. If it gets chilly when I am wearing mesh I simply put my rain gear on over top of the mesh. That keeps me comfortable down to about the 55 degrees F.
Those towns are absolutely amazing. Like you both, I am an advocate of atgatt - all the gear, all the time. Many toll bridges here in the UK are free to motorcycles.
Good for you. As a retired, MSF Instructor and accident investigation, long time riders enjoy riding when dressed for the ride. 55 years riding and still counting.
Another fascinating insight in many aspects of life on a bike. You always add a great mix of the interesting and the visually enjoyable. Good advice on bike gear too!
Enjoy your channel. I applaud your choice to ride full gear. I also made that choice. Even during summer here in Florida I'm the one riding around full gear. It can be a little toasty but in my mind comfort and safety are a compromise. Keep up the great vids!
Stayed at that campground in Muscatine. Right on the river. We went to Chief Blackhawk Swapmeet in Davenport. Last and best trip with my late husband 2016. Thanks for reminding me.
When my husband was alive we were riding down a street and a truck with a camper pulled out on us! Thank God I had a face shield on because I would have lost the right side of my face! Even though I was pretty beat up I still loved riding with my husband!
when i was 17 I bought a new Yamaha XT225. Had it 6mo. Someone crossed the yellow line to pull into a parking lot 7 feet in front of me. I was doing 45. I hit just above the windshield of the car, face 1st. Then flew down the road 25 feet. hit the ground face 1st 4" away from a telephone pole. then slid another 25 feet. Both sides of my full face helmet were ground down to the foam inside from the front to the back and cracked the inside foam in half. When i went forward on the bike i crushed the gas tank and bent the handle bars straight forward.
I totally agree to ride with protective gear. Riding without is a No Brainer. I'm riding for 40 years now and had a few minor incidents, but my gear saved me from bad injuries. Oh, and like that you show us about the history in your country.
Both of you represent safe motor biking and are a example to others. Wife and I have been riding 49 years together. We ride with all the gear, all the time! ATGATT. Full face, boots, gloves, kevlar jeans, armored jackets, and now our latest gear....our Helite airbag vests. I don't judge, or give unwanted opinions or advice. That's just the what we choose to do. No excuses, and no explanations necessary. I Had one stranger tell me that all that wardrobe would do is make me look pretty in a casket. I didn't respond. Thanks for the videos!
You should post a route map of your travels and campgrounds. GPS coordinates would also help. I would like to visit some of the sites you visited in this video.
Thanks Carl. We did put some maps in the video and are curious if they're not helpful. We're open to changing things up to make it more user friendly to folks who are interested in that type of stuff. Let us know. Appreciate it.
wow thanks for the vid you guys I had to hit the like button three times on this one and it was almost like winking at myself. you two are such a kewl couple and almost like your not even bikers. wish I had the nerve to pull a trailer like richard doe's. he handles it well and I'm glad to see richard's alright after that other vid. If I had the energy like when I was younger I'd try that. Keep it up as long as ya can. ty I really like to see people having fun.
I agree everyone is free to make their own choices when it comes to gear. I choose to wear ATGATT. Even so, I managed to break my collarbone back in Oct. After 6-weeks healing up, I got a clean X-Ray from my Dr and did a small Thanksgiving day ride. I’m so thankful to be back on the bike. Keep the adventures coming. I look forward to each weeks episode. Cheers, Brad ATfromAZ
I know this is like a year old, but yikes! Glad your boy is OK! I'm a full gear wearer, usually. I've broken 3 bones so far and thank Bell Helmets for keeping me safe 🙂
Seeing the sunshine, short sleeved shirts and green grass makes me jealous.... winter has come to Michigan so our riding season has ended. Thanks for sharing that awesome scenery! Ride safe
2 “get offs” in 50+ yrs of riding, I’m living proof helmets save lives. When my son was 16, he got the itch to ride. Knowing he’s not a gearhead and just wanted to hang with his school chums, I picked him up from school, plunked him in back of my bike and proceeded to jump on the freeway, cutting across 3 lanes of traffic with the front end about 18” off the ground. He’s 35 now and still has no desire to ever get on a bike; mission accomplished 😉
I too wear all the gear I am able to. I started riding late in life (a few hears ago) but come from a bicycle racing background where those wrecks can be just as dangerous. I’d rather be a bit hotter than comfortable than unprotected. I just wish it was an easier process donning all that gear!😉. Thanks for another fun episode. I look forward to watching each episode while I travel for work all too frequently. It allows me to enjoy someone (your) else’s ride. Stay safe!
I believe in riding with protective riding gear even in 100-degree weather, also wear a Helite airbag vest, only accidents so far dropping the bike from a park or a stop. Love watching your bike adventures.
Love your videos! Especially enjoyed how you ended this one. Really was nice to see you pulling into the campsite along with the music choice! I always look forward to Sunday! You guys are great!
ATGATT - All The Gear All The Time. I don't have a problem with judging people who wear shorts and flipflops. When it becomes too hot to ride, don't ride or have the appropriate gear. Mesh clothing and a cooling vest. Cheers you two!
Here in France, the majority of bikers ride well equipped and the police watch over it. Our life depends on it. There are too many deaths each year, often young people. We have two motorcycles in the family (Moto Guzzi V7 + BMW 1250) and I have always educated my son on safety. Now he is 30 years old and owns a Suzuki Katana. Thank you for your videos. You have immense spaces to discover and that makes us dream. Ps : I remember the Monty Python comedy sketch in 1970 " Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam ... " 😁😂🤣😁😂🤣😁😂🤣 At the time, I only half understood the joke. Thanks to you, I understand better now !!!
Who in the world delivered your package to a post??? That was so bad! I'd have been really angry! Loved your video. We never miss one. The music at the end was great! You should make it your theme song!
I always ride in full gear, i have taken gear off when super hot conditions. I have to say i am very uneasy riding without the gear. Thanks for the video, stay safe.
Hi guys 😊, what a life. Once I was out there in a return trip in a Corvette. Yes the Mississippi River runs North to South of US of A our country. Love the Spam/ Japalos 💨 😬 & eggs. The bank building looked like Chocolate. Be safe & tellee-hoo 🐴 Hugs from Cali..GooseHD Lady 883.
ATGATT. Yup, I have a son who is a now a Paraplegic due to an MC accident. I crashed at the race track (full leathers) and still broke my collar bone. Plus I've taught beginner and advanced MC courses. I ALWAYS wear a helmet. My other son witnessed an accident where an individual was in a parking lot, hopped on his bike to go for a really short ride, hit a curb, ejected onto his skull and never recovered. Did I mention that I ALWAYS wear a helmet. Oh, that goes for riding my bicycle as well (except when on my trainer inside) and I've had more falls with that and cracked helmets. I also always wear gloves. I learned that from riding my bicycle, if you've ever had gravel shoved into the palm of your hand you'll do lots to avoid it so I always wear gloves. I also always wear motorcycle boots (touring boots). I wear jeans a lot although I have some pants on order and I'll try them. I almost always wear a jacket but I have to admit when it gets above 35C or so (about 100F) I may do rides in my T-Shirt (secondary roads out in the country - less traffic). But, like you guys, that's what I do. As an MC Instructor I taught "Levels of Risk" and basically told folks that as long as they've thought about the risk and they are willing to take on more risk then do what you want.
@@TwoWheelsBigLife It took me longer to get over his injury than it took him! However, since the accident he has embraced a number of activities including downhill skiing (sitski), Marathon wheelchair racing and Triathlons (Swimming, Hand Bike, Race Chair) oh and continues to sky dive. Talk about Lemonade when given crap!
Love watching your travels around the US. I all ways put all my gear on when I head out on the road as well you always have to expect the un expected. Keep the great content coming enjoying it here in Australia.
i believe it was last week’s episode, rich, where you dropped the air pressure in the trailer tires. did that smooth out the ride on those thumpa-thumpa-thumpa roads? let the good times roll...
Love this video such awesome things to see. Loved the old bank. Chris does a great job at narrating the historic sites! Also glad that you ride for safety, I have owned two motorcycles and always tried to be on the safe side as well. Safe travels.👍🏻❤️

Planning our two month retirement ride for May and June. May put that river road in the plan! Great vid as always.
👍👍 ATGATT. Wise riders.
True That
I believe in riding with protective riding gear even in 100-degree weather, also wear a Helite airbag vest, only accidents so far dropping the bike from a park or a stop. Love watching your bike adventures.
Thanks - even those types of drops will get the old heart racing. Stay safe.
Love your videos! Especially enjoyed how you ended this one. Really was nice to see you pulling into the campsite along with the music choice!
I always look forward to Sunday!
You guys are great!
Thanks. So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback. We love hearing what folks like and don't like. Helps us in producing videos.
ATGATT - All The Gear All The Time. I don't have a problem with judging people who wear shorts and flipflops. When it becomes too hot to ride, don't ride or have the appropriate gear. Mesh clothing and a cooling vest. Cheers you two!
Thanks Cheers
Be safe & tellee-hoo 🐴
Hugs from Cali..GooseHD Lady 883.
Cool video guys, very interesting area to visit
Glad you enjoyed it.
That old bank that is now a store in ft Madison is owned by my mother. That was her in the video
I love every minute of every video. You guys are so down to earth. You show it how it is. I too wear full gear. Greeting from eastern Canada
Thanks Karl! Greetings from the US - so glad you're here.
So True Agreed!! sorry about your son.
Love your videos and your travels. When it comes to gear I like that old saying “Dress for the slide not the ride”. Keep the videos coming.
really enjoy your videos I look forward to watching every week.
Thanks, Garry! Appreciate that.
